Spinal Cord Injury and the COVID-19 Pandemic
Spinal cord injury or dysfunction (SCI/D) is a life-altering condition involving damage to the spinal cord, either from traumatic or non-traumatic causes. Many people living with SCI/D experience multiple secondary conditions and/or barriers to accessing care. During the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals with spinal cord injury or dysfunction were disproportionately impacted and experienced additional challenges. In the infographics below, we explore some of the impacts of the pandemic on healthcare use, homecare services, vaccinations, mortality, and health outcomes among people with SCI/D.
